Principally Speaking

Another summer is drawing to a close as signs of autumn appear: cooler mornings, subtle yellowing of leaves, lengthening shadows and shorter evenings. Back To School sales are in full force and finally, almost all Sacramento area schools are in session. We start earlier in the year with our modified traditional schedule, but with the regularly scheduled breaks and the additional furlough days, we have breaks scheduled in October, November, December, February and April. Please check the website calendar and plan vacations accordingly.
We have started our year out very smoothly. Students participated in Friendship Week the last full week of August with more activities planned in  September. Students will be  celebrating the idea of preparing for college with College Week the week of September 6th.  Teachers will be highlighting their classroom’s adopted college. Students and staff will wear college t shirts on September 7th. Any college shirt is fine.  College and Career Day is September 30th. Students will enjoy guest speakers talk about their choice of careers during Spirit Day.
August’s character trait was Cooperation and September’s is FAIRNESS.

We emphasized respect between students as well as respectful behavior between students and adults. Bullying type words and behavior will not be tolerated.  You can help students remember our expectations with this motto:
TIMBERWOLVES GROWL!

G         -Giving/Getting Respect
R         -Responsible behavior
O         -Outstanding citizens
W        -Wise choices
 L         -Learning Every Day

There are many ways to become involved as a parent. Your involvement strengthens the school program and demonstrates the value you place on education.  SSC (School Site Council) meets the first Thursday of each month at 8:15. Meeting times are negotiable and can be discussed at the next meeting. SSC meets to oversee our School Improvement Plan (SIP) and budget. Parent representatives are always welcome. PTA, does a fabulous job raising funds for assemblies, supplies and special events and/or purchases. The next PTA meeting will be on September 20th.
You can sign up to volunteer a little or a lot. Becoming a PTA member will help your child’s classroom, but will not obligate you to do anything unless you choose to help with an event or activity.  We all have busy lives. If you can volunteer to man our student store on Fridays,  or help with one or two events like the Harvest Festival or Book fair, we would love to have you. Otherwise your PTA donation will go toward helping our school get the things we need that will have a positive affect on our students.  Presently, we are hoping to purchase projectors, computer speakers and tablets  for the classroom which will enable teachers to project their computer instruction on a full screen as students interact with the lesson.
We are up to full speed and planning for another great year!!
