Happy New Year!

Consider the present as an opportunity for a bright future. The last three years have been tough for all of us with this recession, but amidst it all, there are the children. Where will your school-aged children be in 2020? We encourage them to be living their dreams whether it is in middle school, high school, at American River College, USC, with the Sacramento Symphony Orchestra or involved in professional sports. Perhaps they will be considering a career as a computer scientist, teacher, nurse, or contemplating a successful vocational field such as carpentry or automotive repair. Education is about educating citizens and developing leaders for the challenges ahead. The future requires citizens with analytical minds and moral courage.

This upcoming year brings us a new presidential election, a new federal authorization for education including common core standards across the United States and always, a new beginning. We have the end of the Mayan calendar to look forward to next December which has resulted in numerous theories, predictions and scare tactics. So, the calendar outlasted the Mayans and we, as a society will outlast the Mayan calendar.

Rather than worrying a bout a calendar, our focus is on our educational program. Our curriculum promotes qualities crucial to a democratic society – developing inquisitive minds, enforcing safety, testing theory, and befriending the many cultures surrounding us. In the dawn of the New Year, imagine your children as future leaders of our country. This generation can and will make a difference.
