Principally Speaking

Dear Parents,

As we close this year and prepare to open the 2014-15 school year, we are making an effort to streamline all information parents need to know in one place. On our school website, we will continue to provide our online newsletter along with the school calendar, bell schedule, Leader In Me information, parent conference scheduler, teacher contact email and everything else needed to keep parents current on school information. Under the parent tab you will find our parent handbook with easy to find links to the information it contains as well as our parent involvement policy. These documents will no longer be sent home at the beginning of the year. We have heard from several parents that their students do not bring home information given to them in the classroom. We have replaced several copies of the parent handbook upon parent request because they have become lost at home. By providing this document and others on-line, they will always be available for parents to access.

For those parents who do not have access to a computer at home, we will be happy to provide a hardcopy of any document on our website including monthly newsletters. This offer will be sent home to all students at the beginning of the year inside their folders. Parents must fill out the accompanying copy request in order to receive paper documents. Parents may also come to the office to request a document and/or use one of our computers in the library. This approach will not only help the school save money, it will help us in our effort to support the environment by not generating so much paper. Depending on the size and number of documents requested, we may need 48 hours in order to process and print your request.

Copies of our Leadership books may also be checked out of our school library. Currently we have the following titles available:

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
The 7 Habits of Happy Kids
The Leader In Me
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens
The 8th Habit

These books will provide you with why we find it important to teach our students the Seven Habits and provide them with opportunities to take a leadership role. This will benefit them now and throughout their lives. If you only want to read one book, I definitely recommend The Leader In Me which defines a Leader In Me school and why we have chosen to be one.

Finally, you can find North Country on Facebook. Our news feed will provide you with information about activities and events along with important information regarding student schedules and newsworthy topics. The pictures represent a fine example of our culture and our happy kids. Don't miss it! We enjoy your comments as well.
